Our top 5 tips for choosing
Picking the perfect dresses for your bridesmaids can be tricky. Of course they need to wonderfully complement your wedding dress but there are lots of other considerations too.
Follow these top 5 tips to make your bridesmaid dress shopping easy and, most importantly, fun!
1. Talk to your bridesmaids
It may sound simple but communication really is so important. Let your bridesmaids know your wedding theme, colour scheme and vision for the bridal party. Not everyone will be comfortable in a fitted shift dress, or you may have someone who is not so keen on wearing matching dresses. Having these discussions early will help avoid later upset.
2. Let them help and share ideas
Your friends and family know better than anyone what suits them. Getting their input will not only make everyone feel involved but could really help generate ideas. Setting up a shared Pinterest board or a closed Facebook group is a great way to share inspiration.
3. You can’t go wrong with a classic
A simple, classic style is most likely to suit most body shapes and appeal to a range of different personal tastes. Get the bridal party together to try on a variety of styles (book a group appointment here) or, alternatively, our Click and Collect service is great for trying on multiple dresses when there is only a limited range in store. For optimum creativity, choose a colour or fabric and let your bridesmaids select their own dress - with your input, of course!
4. Set realistic expectations
Talk about budgets before you start to look around. Your best friend might love that £1000 dress she’s spotted, but it may not suit your purse. Similarly, if your friends are buying their own bridesmaid dresses, make sure you know what they can afford to spend - including shoes and accessories, too. Styles that can be worn again after the wedding are also a key consideration.
5. Don’t forget the details
Lastly, whatever you choose, check with your bridesmaids that they are happy to wear the appropriate underwear - strapless bras aren’t for everyone! Or if they’ll be standing all day, make sure everyone is comfortable in heels. Remembering the small details takes away any unnecessary stress and will ensure your wedding day is perfect.
