When is Black Friday?

What is Black Friday?

Originating in America, Black Friday has gained momentum to globally become the biggest shopping day of the year.

Why is it called Black Friday?

Retailers noticed an increase in shoppers on this day, so began to offer exclusive, limited-time deals. This meant that, in one day, retailers’ accounts would go from being ‘in the red’ (loss of profit) to ‘in the black’ (lots of profit) - hence Black Friday.

Traditionally, a lot of people in America have the day after Thanksgiving off work, so they would hit the shops, eager to start their Christmas shopping.
