Behind the book with Andi Osho

Where did you get your inspiration for Asking For A Friend?

The inspiration for Asking For A Friend came from two places. I used to read a lot of self-help books and I want to turn what I had learnt into a story. But the other thing is that the three main characters are based on versions of myself and the attitude I had about dating when I was their age.

Which character do you relate to most?

I would say I’m mainly Jemima with a bit of Simi rising through, because when it comes to relationships, I like keeping people at arm’s length. However, like Simi, I am a hopeless romantic.

Who is your favourite fictional character?

I have said many times I’m a big fan of the Red Dwarf books. And so, I want my favourite character to be Lister, but I think it could be Rimmer – is that bad?

What is your go-to comfort read?

Weirdly, I think it is Instagram. I like a well-written, concise and inspiring meme. I follow a lot of accounts that post them, and they seem to post a lot on Sundays which makes me feel like the world is a good place.
