When is Black Friday 2026?

This year, Black Friday falls on Friday 27th November 2026. It’s the day after Thanksgiving in the US.

Why is the day called Black Friday?

Traditionally, a lot of people in America have the day after Thanksgiving off work, so they would hit the shops, eager to start their Christmas shopping. Retailers noticed an increase in shoppers on this day, so began to offer exclusive, limited-time deals. This meant that, in one day, retailers’ accounts would go from being ‘in the red’ (loss of profit) to ‘in the black’ (lots of profit) - hence Black Friday.
